This is a rare & exciting opportunity for three newly qualified or experienced Occupational Therapists to join the Devon-wide Specialist Health Community Learning Disability Service working with adults in the following locations:
* One Permanent and One Fixed Term (12 months) posts based in either Franklyn House (in our Exeter and East Team) or South West Devon (based from Follaton House Totnes).
* There is a further Permanent position based in North Devon (from Bideford &/or North Devon District Hospitals) with a requirement to work across the cluster (into the Mid MDT - from Crediton and Okehampton Hospitals).
These exciting new posts have become available following service restructuring, supporting career development & progression.
We are looking for imaginative, creative & enthusiastic Occupational Therapists to work with people with learning disabilities who are experiencing additional distress & have complex needs. You will focus on assessing and providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, interventions &/or consultation to support people being an active member of their home & local community, promoting engagement in meaningful occupations.
Due to the large geographical area suitable access to transport is required.
Main duties of the job
Our core business as Occupational Therapists is specialist assessment and intervention promoting engagement in meaningful occupations to maximise health and wellbeing.
You will have, or be willing to develop, experience of managing a specialist caseload of adults with severe and complex learning disabilities who have additional health needs in a variety of community settings. While working as an autonomous practitioner, you will be supported by Specialist Occupational Therapists, other members of the MDT, and participate in the Service's formal professional supervision and appraisal programme.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop your skills and knowledge in a supportive environment. You will have, or a desire to develop, knowledge and skills in relation to relevant occupational therapy models such as the Model of Human Occupation and/or the Model of Creative Ability. Depending upon experience there is the potential to further develop knowledge in the specialist area of sensory processing assessment and intervention. Where required we will support you to undertake necessary training to develop these skills and more as identified through appraisal processes.
You will provide management and clinical support to junior Occupational Therapy staff based within the team including Occupational Therapy students and apprentices.

Experience
* Application of occupational therapy process
* Use of standardised /functional assessment and activity analysis.

Knowledge & Skills
* Demonstrate understanding of occupational performance and the role of the Occupational Therapy within a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of government law and policy with regard to services for people with learning disabilities including guidance regarding people with complex distressed behaviour (Mental Health Act; DOLS; Safeguarding etc).
* Knowledge / skills in relation to risk assessment processes

* Ability to travel throughout the geographical area covered by the Trust to meet the demands of the role
Qualifications
* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
* Valid state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
