Requirements:
Essential
1. Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in childcare
2. Enhanced DBS certificate/Clean criminal record
3. Previous experience as a Deputy Room Leader or Room Leader
Desirable
1. Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
2. Paediatric First Aid certificate
3. Safeguarding children certificate to deliver and support a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years.
An exciting opportunity has come up to provide maternity cover in our mixed age preschool room at our Carleton setting. The role will involve managing a team of staff on a daily basis, based throughout our large indoor and outdoor provision. The responsibilities involve ensuring staff are distributed throughout the space effectively maintaining ratios, ensuring the smooth running of our day-to-day routine, facilitating daily walks and trips, and overseeing the day-to-day running of the room.
While initially the room leader post is maternity cover, for the right candidate further opportunities for progression may be available at the end of this assignment.
Job Description:
1. To ensure the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff, and others.
2. To help ensure the nursery meets the OFSTED requirements at all times.
3. To be vigilant and report to the manager/DSL any safeguarding and child protection issues following correct procedure and nursery policy.
4. To be able to respond appropriately to incidents, accidents, complaints, and emergencies.
5. To contribute to the health and well-being of children at all times.
6. To be included in daily walks and outings that may involve pushing prams and use of a walk-o-dile, whilst adhering to health & safety requirements at all times.
7. To safely assist with carrying children up and down stairs as required.
8. To maintain high standards for safety, cleanliness, and hygiene. This includes stringent daily cleaning of equipment, bathroom, and toilet areas. To actively participate in the kitchen cleaning rota as and when directed.
9. To understand and promote nursery policies and procedures.
10. Ability to communicate well with adults and children.
11. To build and maintain positive partnerships with parents/carers to facilitate the daily learning and care of the children.
12. To plan and deliver an enticing and thought-provoking EYFS curriculum that supports children to make individual progress.
13. To observe, plan, and evaluate children’s progress ensuring next steps are met.
14. To be a key person.
15. To undertake designated officer roles as directed.
16. To ensure daily records are properly maintained and kept up to date.
17. Good organisational skills.
18. Awareness of equality and diversity.
19. Awareness of health & safety in relation to the role.
20. To be able to work as part of a team.
21. To promote the nursery’s ethos, following the 3 I’s.
22. To attend monthly staff meetings contributing where appropriate.
23. To attend training to develop CPD and to maintain and utilise up-to-date legislation and practice.
24. To promote forest school and engage with outdoor learning/walks.
