Position Overview
As we embark on a multi-year mission to revolutionize the Design to Manufacture industry with Autodesk Fusion, we are excited to offer a pivotal role in our Product Design and Manufacturing Solutions division. The team you will join is spearheading the development of the Fusion compute engine, which is poised to be the foundation for future cloud-based Design and Manufacturing workflows.
In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying reliable, scalable, and secure web services, which will be released as service offerings within the Autodesk Platform Services. These services are utilized by a global network of developers. Your primary responsibility will be the development of a compute service that delivers comprehensive computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing (CAM) functionalities via a REST API.
Your expertise in developing and maintaining Linux-based software will be invaluable in the successful implementation and deployment of this service. We are looking for a candidate with a deep understanding of the GNU/Linux environment, Linux tools, and the tooling used for Linux SW engineering. You should have extensive experience working with large-scale codebases that integrate numerous second- and third-party libraries and support multiple operating systems (Windows, MacOS, Linux) and architectures (x86-64 and ARM64). Moreover, you'll be expected to contribute to process improvements, perform code reviews, and mentor other developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
In return, you will be part of a team that is committed to innovation and offers a collaborative work environment. This is your opportunity to not just witness, but actively participate in, the paradigm shift that is poised to transform the CAM industry.
You will report to a Senior Software Engineering Manager.
This team works in a primarily remote-based setup, with semi-regular meetups in our Munich, Parsberg or Birmingham offices.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain code of significant size and complexity, requiring creative solutions.
2. Define and implement the backend of a web service, with an emphasis on reliability, security, and scalability.
3. Port Windows and MacOS code to run on Linux.
4. Implement and modify CI/CD pipelines for multi-OS libraries and applications.
5. Setup and monitor automatic unit, integration and system tests.
6. Document your work comprehensively.
7. Actively contribute to the decision-making process and make suggestions to improve code, product, and service quality.
8. Collaborate with other software architects and developers worldwide.
9. Work in a team to establish and achieve development goals.
10. Work with extended teams of Product Management, QA, Platform Engineering, Manufacturing Technology Consulting, etc.
Requirements:
11. Extensive experience with developing, improving, and maintaining large code bases of both web and desktop applications.
12. Proven experience integrating second- and third-party libraries into existing software.
13. Experience in porting Windows and Mac functionality to Linux.
14. Deep familiarity with Linux tools, including gcc, ld, etc.
15. Knowledge of network configuration, directory structure, user- and access-permission management.
16. Familiarity with binary compatibility and semantic versioning.
17. Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly Jenkins and Spinnaker.
18. Experience with container technology, Docker, ECS, etc.
19. Proficiency in C++ (required), Python (optional)
20. A natural feeling of what is “good architecture.”
21. Experience with CAD and CAM systems (optional)
22. Good written and verbal English communication skills.
