We have an opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our cost management team. You will become part of our dynamic and collaborative team working together to achieve team success and be encouraged and supported to progress your career within the Winchester office cost management discipline.
As a discipline, we deliver significant projects ranging from £1m to over £60m across a wide variety of sectors, namely Education, Residential, specifically PBSA’s; however, this opportunity will see immediate involvement with a long-standing Local Government Client and Charity Client.
What you need to do to be effective in this role:
1. Lead on all aspects of cost management from inception to completion.
2. Manage large scale and/or multiple projects with key clients.
3. Help manage and develop a strong cost management team.
4. Support senior team with business planning and contribute to winning repeat business and new opportunities.
5. Support and manage junior team members to deliver our cost management service efficiently and effectively, whilst supporting their ongoing development.
6. Support Clients and other stakeholders in their decision making.
7. Work with digital tools for quantitative outtake and cost estimating.
8. Produce high-level feasibility studies, cost estimates, and cost plans throughout all stages of the design stage with competence in producing BOQs.
9. Evaluate the cost of building designs and alternative proposals to maintain project budgets.
10. Prepare and issue tender documents.
11. Manage the tender process, review and analyse tender returns, and prepare recommendations to the client as well as advice on procurement routes.
12. Advise on building contract terms.
13. Attend meetings, prepare financial reports, and monitor the status of projects.
14. Provide robust post-contract cost control measures, establishing the effect of variations and evaluating and negotiating final account settlements.
15. Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and consultants.
16. Maintain the highest standards of professional competence.
The skills and experience you need to have for this role:
1. Relevant degree in quantity surveying or a similar RICS accredited course.
2. MRICS preferred but not essential.
3. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor with +15 years’ experience.
4. Experience of technically complex projects.
5. Interest in digitisation, AI, BIM, Proficient using CostX.
6. Knowledge and experience of undertaking LCCs and LCAs, Capital Allowances; Reinstatement Cost Assessments preferred but not essential.
7. Articulate, capable of establishing and maintaining strong client relationships.
8. Commercially aware with excellent negotiation and organisational skills.
9. Sound knowledge of JCT & NEC Suite of Contracts.
10. Critical thinking; able to analyse project costs, contracts, and risks objectively to make informed decisions.
11. Keep up with changes in construction laws, new software, and cost estimation techniques.
12. Adaptability; able to adjust to changes in project scope, economic conditions, or new client requirements.
13. Self-motivated and willing to take responsibility.
14. Ability to lead a team, work to tight deadlines, stay organised, and manage workload efficiently.
