Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking to recruit an Ophthalmic Imaging Technician to join our Virtual Clinic in Butterfield Ophthalmology Unit Team in Winchester. This dynamic role involves working as part of the Ophthalmic Imaging Team in the provision of a high-quality specialist diagnostic imaging service to the department of Ophthalmology.
The main responsibilities of this role are to assist the multidisciplinary team to provide an efficient and effective ophthalmic service. Duties include performing various ophthalmic investigations including visual field, OCT, eye pressure and visual acuity testing, which assesses the visual function of patients attending the eye clinic. The role also includes ocular imaging and day-to-day administrative tasks. A key element is to assist medical teams in providing gold standard patient care while meeting and interacting with patients in a friendly and professional manner.
This role helps ensure the smooth running of ophthalmic clinics, allowing the medical workforce to focus on clinical decisions regarding the patient's pathway. It also enables a virtual clinical review, where the technician can perform the ophthalmic imaging and, in a different virtual session, the doctor can complete a virtual review of the patient, ensuring that more patients can be reviewed than in a face-to-face clinic and reducing long waits for patients.
Main Duties of the Job
Undertake a range of pre-defined procedures, for which specific training has been given under the direction of the Senior Ophthalmic Nurse. Carry out all tests to a high standard, ensuring the individual needs of patients are met, maintaining the patient's privacy and dignity, and acting in the patients' best interests at all times. Record all tests on the relevant patient records.
