Paediatric Allergy Nurse
Band 6
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Allergy Team for a highly motivated, experienced paediatric nurse with a passion and interest in allergy.
The Paediatric Allergy Nurse will work collaboratively with all members of the Royal United Hospital paediatric team to deliver effective, high quality, safe patient-centered care on the main hospital site in Bath.
Based in Children's outpatients but also reviews ward patients, the applicant will be an enthusiastic, flexible individual who is confident and self-motivated in their learning and development, and desire to join our welcoming and supportive team.
We are a well-established specialist service, with a wealth of experience. The applicant should be someone who is equally interested and passionate about allergy. Our multidisciplinary team has a strong reputation locally and nationally as being innovative and responsive in the development of our service to meet our local population’s health needs and we are continually building on this. We are part of two regional networks, and the post holder would be encouraged to attend network days either virtually or in person 2-3 times annually.
The capability to work autonomously is essential, as we are a small, friendly team with a large caseload, and all of the team are part-time.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Practice/Care Delivery
* Coordinate care, facilitate communication and support education between the wider MDT, other clinicians, community healthcare, schools, and parents of CYP with allergies.
* Contribute and participate in twice weekly consultant-led MDT style clinics. Once appropriately trained, contribute to and run nurse-led clinics, one to two per week.
* Have excellent communication skills for supporting patients and their families across the paediatric age range and recognize the impact that an allergy diagnosis can have on family life.
* Have experience of data management/research and a clear understanding of the importance of attention to detail, and the knowledge and confidence to manage clinical issues independently following RUH and national guidelines.
* Gain excellent opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills in managing all aspects of childhood allergic conditions including food allergy, asthma, eczema, urticaria, and allergic rhinitis, with the support of a highly skilled nursing and multidisciplinary team. This will include practical training, clinical supervision, attending allergy teaching/training, and linking in with other allergy services, both locally, nationally, virtually, or in person.
To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines.
