The role
The role-holder will support the work of the Hong Kong History Centre and the development of the Hong Kong Historical Archives. They will focus on creating detailed catalogues for complex mixed media archives relating to the history of Hong Kong, some of which may be written in Chinese. They will work closely with the Digital Archive Assistant to enable digital preservation of the born digital and digitised archives. They will support the wider team to ensure the archives can be made available for research, education, and wider engagement activities.
What will you be doing?
The role holder will undertake a range of professional responsibilities relating to the development and care of the Hong Kong Historical Archives. In addition to cataloguing, this will include ensuring professional standards and ethics are complied with throughout all processes: acquisition, appraisal, cataloguing, and identification of material for digitisation and digital preservation. They will supervise the work of the Digital Archive Assistant, liaise with rights holders, and carry out due diligence for orphan works. In liaison with the Hong Kong History Centre, they will establish protocols for access to the Hong Kong Historical archives and support research and public engagement activities.

You are an archivist with a strong interest in the history of Hong Kong and a keenness to work closely with an academic Research Centre to develop, care for, and make accessible a new archive collection. You should be excited by the prospect of working with these archives, aware of the complexities, and have an ability to understand and demonstrate care and sensitivity to the special nature of the unique and distinct materials relating to the history of Hong Kong.
