Location
Our headquarters is a newly refurbished office in Capital Quarter, Cardiff, specifically designed to meet our needs. We expect this to be the place that most colleagues will use to collaborate, both with each other and with stakeholders.
As we operate across Wales, we also have collaboration and limited office space in Welsh Government offices in Llandudno Junction, Aberystwyth, Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil.
Main purpose of the job
You will lead and manage project delivery within Medr.
Initially you will work within the Apprenticeship Branch and will be responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the new Apprenticeship Programme, ensuring project objectives and deliverables are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality requirements. You will have a key role in project governance, assurance and communications, with a clear focus on project delivery and benefit realisation.

What you'll be doing
Medr Is Building a New Apprenticeship Programme In Wales That Is More Responsive To Employer Needs And Invests In Those Areas That Will Drive Economic Growth And Social Cohesion. Our Long Term Ambition Is For An Education And Skills System That Incentivises And Facilitates Collaboration Between Providers Across The Post-16 Sector To Serve The Needs Of Learners, Employers, The Wider Community And The Economy, Removing Duplication And Wasteful Competition. You Will Be Responsible For:
* Delivery – driving forward the project, monitoring and reporting on the delivery of the agreed deliverables within time, cost and quality constraints.
* Project management – Day-to-day management of the project.
* Business case – leading on the development of the business case.
* Budget – Track delivery within budget.
* Resources – Schedule / manage resources to deliver the project.
* Benefits realisation – Ensure benefits are identified, understood, measured, tracked and owned. Ensure appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place, and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the business case.
* Stakeholder management – Identify key stakeholders and develop effective relationships.
* Risks and issues – Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.
* Governance – Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making.
* Assurance – Support or set appropriate project assurance.
* Project performance and controls – Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.
* Secretariat of the Project Board.
Key challenges you will face
* Managing stakeholder expectations, and potential conflicting views including those of learners, learning providers and stakeholders.
* Balancing competing demands and priorities across the apprenticeship programmes.
* Overseeing the delivery of the new Apprenticeship Programme.
* Establishing and advising upon best practice arrangements for project delivery across Medr.
About Your Team
The Senior Project Manager post will be a corporate role and work across Medr to manage project delivery. You will initially work within the Apprenticeship Team.
The apprenticeship team plays a pivotal role in enhancing the apprenticeship offer across key sectors and promoting strategically important sectors and promoting it to young people and the existing workforce. They foster collaboration throughout the post-16 sector to support learner progression and create accessible and inclusive pathways. Additionally, they work with stakeholders using a co-production approach to refine apprenticeship frameworks, addressing evolving needs and priorities such as net zero and the Welsh language.

Candidates who successfully navigate the sift stage will be required to complete an online exercise to enable us to determine their behavioural and personality preferences.
