Overview of the Role
To lead the drivers who are allocated to your management. To be responsible for the full driver colleague cycle from recruitment, onboarding/induction and day to day management with a strong focus on safety and coordination of deliveries to ensure deliveries are made in line with customer SLAs.
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, (Saturdays working on a rotational shift pattern). Please note that due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check before employment can commence. This includes both spent and unspent convictions, as well as information held by local police deemed as relevant to the role. Employment is conditional on satisfactory DBS clearance. The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children.
Main Responsibilities
1. Work with the resourcing team to recruit drivers to ensure that headcount is maintained.
2. Train new drivers on Company policy and procedures and safety protocols (including arranging driver buddies and GDP training).
3. Ensure that the driver loads and unloads in a proper and safe manner.
4. Ensure that drivers are familiar with all of their routes and schedules.
5. Responsible for route scheduling and that driver cover is at a maximum.
6. Problem-solving to cover routes that are without a driver.
7. Manage driver time and attendance and follow up with any regular occurrences of lateness or absence, working with the employee relations team to take the relevant action.
8. Carry out return to work interviews upon drivers' return to work following periods of absence.
9. Communicate with the Fleet team regarding any accident or incident reporting, completing all necessary paperwork/forms.
10. Deal with responses to speeding fines and completing paperwork to advise of who was driving at the time of the offence.
11. Ensure that congestion charges for relevant routes are paid in advance to avoid fines.
12. Deal with and respond to fines, if they do occur.
13. Respond to police requests for who was the driver at the time of an accident.
14. Deal with Samsara issues and ensure informal action is taken for behaviour which breaches company policy or expectations.
15. Raise this with the employee relations team to take formal action where necessary and relevant.
16. Support the Health and Safety and Fleet teams with any vehicle and driver H&S activity/compliance.
17. EPOD Compliance (Snap) POD and Customer Service investigations.
18. Duties will also still include driver duties as and when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
1. Full and valid UK driving licence.
2. Strong team management skills.
3. Excellent organisation skills.
4. High attention to detail.
5. Must pass full DBS check.
