Highfield Garage and Recovery Ltd provide a complete vehicle recovery service across Devon, working for all the major recovery associations, such as the AA, the RAC and Green Flag etc.
We have a fleet of highly distinctive vehicles that can be seen rescuing and recovering stranded motorists 24 hours a day.
The company also works on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police providing a recovery, rescue and subsequent support service for vehicles involved in collisions or the commission of crime.
The company also operates two garages, one in Spreyton and one in Exeter providing repair, servicing and MOT work on the complete range of vehicles.
The Role:
We are looking to recruit an experienced full time bookkeeper (although a minimum 30 hours per week would be considered) to join our busy company at our Spreyton Garage, close to the A30 in Devon. This role will encompass comprehensive bookkeeping services, dealing with the purchase ledger, sales ledger and nominal ledger maintaining all the accounts to ensure they are reconciled and up to date.
The company combines Sage Accounting with specialist sales systems, KISS and APEX to maintain their accounts.
VAT return preparation, management accounts preparation and being able to deal with the company's payroll are all desirables, but certainly not essential.
Responsibilities:
1. Posting of all purchase ledger entries and maintaining the purchase ledger up to date.
2. Importing all sales ledger entries and maintaining the sales ledger up to date.
3. Posting all payments and receipts and reconciling these with both the sales and purchase ledgers, and ensure the bank accounts remain fully up to date and reconciled.
4. Dealing with the usual bookkeeping matters, including customer queries, month end and year end routines.
5. Assisting with the quarterly VAT return preparation.
6. Depending upon experience, you may also be asked to prepare monthly or quarterly management accounts, or support the payroll function.
The Person:
To be considered for this role, you should have recent relevant experience of bookkeeping, ideally having worked in a busy business environment, with a high volume of transactions, working to tight deadlines. You will have a good working knowledge of Sage, whilst a working knowledge of garage/recovery finance and reporting would be preferable.
It is desirable that you will be AAT, IAB or ICB qualified or part qualified, although qualification by experience will be considered. You must have good attention to detail and be able to work independently. We are looking for someone who is motivated, has a willingness to learn and can pick things up quickly. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team, have a proactive nature with a willingness to work hard and a "can do" attitude.
Personality and good communication skills are essential, and an open mind as there may be the opportunity to assist in developing the company's existing accounting systems as the company continues to grow.
