About the Role
The Assistant Ecologist role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual early in their ecology career to develop practical skills and gain exposure to a diverse range of projects. Based in Birmingham with hybrid working options, you’ll support the ecology team in fieldwork, data entry, and report drafting. This role will involve hands-on experience, providing you with valuable insights into ecological practices within a professional consultancy setting. Starting in early 2025, this position allows flexibility for the right candidate to start sooner if available.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assisting with ecological field surveys and site assessments
* Supporting data entry, report writing, and data analysis
* Learning and applying survey methodologies and species identification
* Collaborating with team members to ensure accurate and timely project delivery
* Contributing to biodiversity and environmental management planning
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented individual who has a keen interest in ecology and sustainability and a desire to develop hands-on experience in the field. You’ll have an opportunity to work on impactful projects, gaining mentorship from experienced ecologists and landscape designers. This role is suited to someone with a foundational understanding of ecological survey methods and a passion for conservation and biodiversity.
Desired Skills and Attributes:
* An undergraduate degree which has provided a solid foundation in ecological principles e.g. ecology, biology, environmental science, geography, conservation is required
* Basic knowledge of ecological survey methods and species identification
* Excellent organisational skills and a willingness to learn
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Experience with data analysis and report writing
* Fieldwork experience is a plus but not essential
