First Military Recruitment are currently seeking an HGV Mechanic on behalf of one of our clients.
Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. As a mechanic, you will be tasked with carrying out preventive maintenance inspections, to DVSA inspection manual standards, whilst making sure that all relevant documentation is completed to the required standard to meet Operator Licence and FORS Obligations.
2. Servicing and repairs on a vehicle and trailer fleet that spans multiple manufacturers and models, while also assisting with the delivery of our services.
3. You will be responsible for repairing daily defect repairs, replacing broken or defective parts, changing wheels if punctured or tyre damaged, preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT.
4. To attend broken down or accident damaged vehicles and effect permanent or running repairs as required.
5. To prepare and decommission vehicles.
6. Fitting and removing a diverse range of ancillary equipment, accessories, and livery.
7. You must ensure that all relevant legislation and Health and Safety, and Environmental requirements are adhered to and maintain work areas in a safe and clean condition, cleaning up spillages and disposing of wastes appropriately.
Skills and Qualifications:
8. Mechanics need to be able to inspect and diagnose problems with vehicle engines and drivetrains, mechanical, electrical and Hydraulic components accurately and effectively.
9. You should be competent in using computer-based diagnostic equipment and using your own expert judgement, whilst developing your skills and staying up to date with the latest vehicle technology.
10. You may be required to attend additional training courses.
11. Category C Licence and valid DCPC is required as a minimum as you will take vehicles to Authorised Testing Facilities to carry out DVSA vehicle testing and road-test vehicles to check repairs or, moving vehicles to other locations if needed.
