Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Your Training will include periods of on-the-job training at one of our Fleet workshops. You will be working alongside and learning from experienced and qualified Mechanics, in addition you will attend a technical college for block release study periods, ultimately achieving a Level 3 Qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanics.
A vehicle Mechanic uses their mechanical skills and knowledge to ensure that our fleet is operational 24/7 – 365, thus enabling our teams to deliver a service to the communities and customer’s we serve. That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively.
Join us, and we will see you using your skills and participate in activities on our fleet such as;
* Carrying out routine repair and maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles, plant and ancillary equipment, which includes: Electric, ICE, Heavy goods, Cranes, Loaders, Generators, Trailers, etc.
* Preparing and presenting vehicles for annual testing.
* Road testing, diagnosing and repairing of vehicle faults using the latest diagnostic equipment.
* Attending breakdowns; recovery of broken down or accident damaged vehicles.
* Fabrication and modification of vehicles – to include welding techniques.

* Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
* Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
* Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
* Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
* Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
* Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
* Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
* Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
* Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
* Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
* Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
* Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
* Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.
