Purpose of Role
To lead and execute research & development studies on a range of agricultural crops.
Duties / Responsibilities
1. Accountable for the effective execution and coordination of all research activities in your area of operations. Ensuring that high quality trials are implemented, maintained, assessed and the resulting data reported to stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner.
2. Conduct R&D activities, to include but not limited to application, planting, sampling, assessment, recording, analysing, and harvesting of crop commodities.
3. Working on field and glasshouse studies on a range of crops including Cereals, Potatoes, Oilseed Rape, Sugar Beet, Maize, Sunflowers, and Vegetables.
4. Work with the Station manager to ensure the cost-effective execution of research activities at the Station, providing recommendations for the purchase of needed equipment.
5. Preparing protocols, discussing and gaining input from stakeholders, reporting and archiving.
6. Ensure that technical know-how on products and technologies is maintained internally and effectively transferred to concerned departments.
7. Contribute to screening and development meetings and discussions, in the form of data summaries and technical leadership.
8. Effectively manage the day-to-day activities of any Research Assistants in your area of operations and support the Station manager in ensuring that an excellent work environment is maintained.
9. Use and application of ARM software packages, including at least ARM and ARM ST.
10. Promote the Research Station as a Centre of Excellence within UPL, maintaining good communication with global and regional project leaders.
11. Maintain good communications with local team and regional/global stakeholders.
12. Stay up to date with and work within relevant field methodologies, including where appropriate EPPO and country testing guidelines.
13. Within your area of operations, stay up to date with developments in agricultural best practices and act as a point of contact for any technical queries.
14. Actively participate and contribute to the growth of UPL's Intellectual Property (IP) / patent portfolio.
15. Ensure safe and compliant use and storage of all chemical products by maintaining a zero tolerance for any contaminations at and around the site.
16. Ensure that all activities at the site are compliant with corporate rules and that a safe working environment is maintained.
Experience / Qualifications
1. At least 7 years’ experience in an identical or comparable role.
2. Agriculture, Agronomy, Life science or similar (BSc, equivalent or higher).
3. PA1 - NPTC Certificate.
4. PA6 - NPTC Certificate.
5. Full UK Drivers Licence.
Skills / Knowledge
1. Plant Pathology and Fungal biology research, highly desirable.
2. Experience in handling and development of pathogens for inoculation.
3. Excellent organisation and computer skills (MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
4. Effective communicator, through written, verbal and presentation.
5. Self-motivated.
Additional Skills / Knowledge
Advantageous but not mandatory
1. Experience and use of Agricultural equipment / machinery.
2. Experience in working with seed treatments advantageous.
3. PA2, PA11, PA9, PA4 NPTC Certificates.
4. BASIS Certificate in Plant Protection, or equivalent.
