Hackney Design Review Panel recruits new members
New members are being sought to join the influential Hackney Design Review Panel (DRP) to help maintain high-quality development in the borough.
The DRP is a key component in promoting and building upon Hackney Council's strong reputation on design, positive planning and continuing to foster engagement and network building with development partners and a wide range of stakeholders.
We are recruiting professionals with an awareness and knowledge of the borough and expertise in a range of disciplines including architecture, urban design, landscape and public realm, building conservation and heritage, sustainability and climate change mitigation, engineering, biodiversity, town planning and other built environment professions.
Hackney is one of the smallest London boroughs by area but one of the most densely populated, with a diverse and rich built environment including internationally recognised and exemplar buildings and places. Additionally, the borough has significant open spaces, and a fine built heritage with 35 Conservation Areas and many listed buildings.
Hackney also faces enormous pressure for development, and having declared a climate emergency in 2019 means the need for quality design is all the more important.
The panel was one of the first in London when it was established in 2006 to help raise the standard of design across all types of development, as part of the Council's wider objectives to achieve balanced, sustainable communities and neighbourhoods. It has reviewed more than 200 schemes, many of which are now built and have become nominated and award winning projects.
To apply, please complete this form responding to the 4 key questions within it and send your up-to-date CV to: DRP@hackney.gov.uk. Applications are open until Sunday 11 May at 23:59.
Hackney Council aims to have a panel that best reflects the diversity and inclusivity of the borough and would welcome a wide range of applications from a diverse background.
The panel is an independent body and panel members are not directly employed by the Council. An hourly fee is offered to compensate panel members for participation in design review sessions.
