We are recruiting for a Behavioural Support / Student Welfare Officer for one of our secondary schools in Stoke on Trent.
The core values of our school are Ambition, Opportunity, and Community. We believe that every child, regardless of their background or starting point, is entitled to a world-class education. Our aim is to ensure that students’ attendance, behaviour, and attitudes to self and learning lead to good outcomes. You will be working closely with your Head of Year and predominantly with one specific year group.
The successful Behavioural Support Officer will be responsible for managing behaviour, attendance, and support for students across the school. This includes monitoring attendance, arranging home visits where required, and offering support in school. We want to create a “home-from-home” feeling that enables us to nurture students and provide them with the best educational experience once they’ve successfully engaged with them emotionally.
We need someone who has experience in safeguarding, mentoring, counselling, or SEMH, or who has previously worked as a Behavioural Support Officer. The ideal candidate should be able to build trusting relationships and provide security to our vulnerable learners while demonstrating clear, confident communication and resilience in high-pressure circumstances.
About you:
Beneficial traits for this role include patience, resilience, and approachability. You must also have the ability to communicate effectively with the SENDCO, class teacher, external agencies, and parents about SEND pupils' learning and progress.
