Our client, a main water and civil engineering contractor with many years’ experience delivering world class projects across the UK, is looking for a Project Manager to join their team in Walsall on a permanent basis.
The Role:
The Project Manager is to deliver multiple ongoing projects, to the specified quality, the required programme, and to the maximum commercial performance. The role also involves working closely with the Estimating Department, site delivery teams, and surveyors to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner, whilst ensuring customer requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.
Key Responsibilities of a Project Manager:
1. Produce financial forecasts, monitoring and controlling project costs and cost reporting, and produce monthly reports to the Contracts Manager on project performance, efficient team building, and labour organisation.
2. Deliver projects from design phase to completion including all handover documentation.
3. Review progress, budget resources, and forward planning.
4. Review work packages and ensure scope of work is clearly defined and understood.
5. Chair weekly site meetings and ensure the production of accurate records of any discussions and actions.
6. Build and maintain good relationships with the customer, framework suppliers, and design consultants.
7. Develop and maintain construction programmes with their staff.
8. Co-ordinate and manage site investigations during the ongoing construction process.
9. Develop engineering solutions in order that a buildable cost-effective construction solution is delivered that fulfills the client’s requirements.
10. Ensure production and implementation of Project Plans, risk assessments, method statements, site waste management plans, and procurement of plant and materials are in line with company procedures.
11. Ensure detailed site diaries/records are completed.
12. Maintain commercial tension to drive out cost and challenge the status quo.
13. Prepare comprehensive estimates for additional work outside target costs.
14. Assist with estimating new tenders.
15. Chase potential new clients.
16. By example, set the highest possible standards of leadership in promotion of HS&E procedures and best practice, ensuring compliance with Company procedures and legal obligations.
17. Ensure all HSE-related documents are kept up to date.
18. Produce monthly reports for the HSE team.
19. Allocate HSE responsibilities and duties for site personnel, check understanding, and provide training as necessary.
20. Ensure that all subcontractors take appropriate steps to follow their procedures and processes.
21. Ensure that site waste management plans and site-specific environmental risk assessments are produced and maintained.
22. Liaise with third parties to ensure compliance with HSG47, HAUC, NRSWA, Chapter 8, and other required regulatory standards.
23. Provide training and briefings to the team, in particular to lead cascade briefings, TBT’s, 3 Pillar Forums, and general briefings.
24. Be responsible for managing and producing ITP’s and ensure they are signed off by relevant parties.
25. Ensure that the QA File is produced and maintained.
26. Close out any technical queries.
27. Ensure as-builts and O&M manuals are submitted to the client on completion.
28. Client's monthly and weekly reporting timescales are met.
29. Contract timescales are met.
30. Adherence to Business Unit Objectives.
31. Ensure 3 Pillar KPI measures are met.
Requirements for Project Manager:
The successful candidate will have extensive experience of managing projects within Civil and Water sectors, and is likely to meet all of the following criteria:
1. Good working knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, Design Management, Programme & Risk Management, and cost control including forecasting, actual cost, and value reporting.
2. Ability to use Primavera P6 software or equivalent.
3. Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
4. CSCS manager’s card.
5. SMSTS.
6. Knowledge of the NEC contract including the Early Warning and Compensation Event mechanisms.
7. Excellent communication, people and team management skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and mentor.
8. Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion.
9. Ability to manage and deliver a successful project with minimal guidance.
10. Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
11. Experience of a direct labour organisation.
