We’re looking for someone to lead our Construction Multiskills Team of tutors at our High Wycombe centre. Maybe you have experience of leading a team but on the construction side your experience is limited to DIY. Or perhaps you have been a teacher for years and are looking to move away from mainstream education. Whether you have team leading experience, teaching experience or construction industry experience or a combination of those things, we’re interested in hearing from you. For us it is about finding a Lead Tutor who believes in developing potential, both in their team members and in the learners their tutors are supporting.
The key focus for this role is to support, guide and direct the development of tutors delivering the Constructions Multiskills course as well as the young people enrolled on that course.
As a Lead Tutor for our Construction Multiskills programme you will be working as part of and leading a team to generate creative ideas for ways to support very hard to engage young people.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and support tutors in delivering the Construction Multi-Skills programme, Functional Skills in Maths and English, and a Tutorials Programme.
* Guide tutors in using trauma-informed practices and implementing EHCP objectives, including 1:1 or group interventions.
* Mentor and support tutors in de-escalation techniques, and ensure they prioritise learners’ social, emotional, and mental well-being with trauma informed practices.
* Co-ordinate with learners, parents/carers, Youth Justice Services, schools, and referral partners to help young people complete their construction programme, achieve qualifications, and work towards independence.
* Encourage learners’ regular attendance, participation, and effort as drivers of positive outcomes.
* Lead a team in organising practical life-skills activities and construction site visits to enhance learner independence and real-world experience.
* Develop partnerships with local employers to facilitate site visits, talks, and progression pathways for learners.
* Work with the team to generate creative strategies for engaging learners who face challenges.
* Complete and ensure all documentation and assessments meet the standards required by Buckinghamshire College Group, our awarding body (NOCN), and Ofsted.
* Oversee tutor performance and provide regular feedback, maintaining high standards aligned with Ofsted requirements.
* Keep enrolment records, update ILPs, SMART targets, and ensure progress tracking and reporting are timely and accurate.
* Work with your line manager to manage your professional development (CPD) programme.
* Maintain compliance with NMT safeguarding protocols and ensure tutor understanding of relevant policies and training.
If you work with us you’ll discover that New Meaning Training offers education with a difference. We’re different because we work to enable young people who achieved little progress at a mainstream setting to discover how they are going to earn their own living, and to take their first steps towards this. The young people supported on any of the learning programmes can vary considerably in their learning needs. They have often failed at school because they were “forced” into a learning approach that did not suit their specific needs.

Qualities:

All learners at NMT have varying levels and areas of need such as: autism, ADHD, anxiety, attachment disorder, dyslexia, experience of trauma, social emotional needs, and learning difficulties amongst others. NMT is dedicated to supporting young people in energising, inclusive and caring work environments. The ideal candidate will bring grit, resilience, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude, along with flexibility and strong organisational skills.
A deep empathy for young people’s circumstances and an understanding of current social issues affecting them, such as County Lines and the impact of COVID on mental health, would be advantageous. You should be able to help learners set and achieve their goals with sensitivity and understanding. Professionalism is essential, especially when interacting with learners, parents, and external parties.
Whether you bring prior knowledge of varied learning styles or a willingness to learn, we value open-mindedness, curiosity, and creativity—especially in tailoring engaging activities that support individual learning objectives.
