Your new company
An exciting new in-house job has arisen for a Commercial Counsel to join our energy and utilities client as a strategic member of their in-house legal function in South Wales. This role will be a wide-ranging role supporting the General Counsel by providing a broad range of commercial advice to senior stakeholders across the business. You must be able to travel to their offices in Newport; however, you will also be able to work flexibly from home for part of the week if desired.
Your new role
You will lead on drafting and negotiating commercial, IT, and cyber contracts and agreements and be able to provide advice on data protection and protecting intellectual property rights. You will be providing quality and timely legal advice and legal support to a range of stakeholders within this growing business. You will have responsibility for managing and updating the businesses' standard commercial documentation and help ensure the business complies with sector-specific regulations, ensuring risk mitigation support in all key business functions.
What you'll need to succeed
Our client is looking for a UK qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 2+ years PQE, either with experience gained in-house, or at a high-quality national or regional law firm with exposure to advising clients in the utilities, energy, and/or technology sectors. You will be a strong technical lawyer with a solid foundation in commercial contracts, ideally with knowledge of managing large-scale IT and/or cyber projects. You will be confident handling your own caseload of commercial work and supporting your wider team.
