We are seeking to strengthen our civil and bridge engineering team in Birmingham and are looking for a Technical Director to lead on technical project delivery, work-winning, and operational management with a strong focus on our portfolio with National Highways. This position can be considered for a full-time or part-time basis.
The team is busy with bridge and civil engineering work for a variety of clients, including National Highways, Network Rail, D&B Contractors, and local authorities. We are currently mobilising additional teams to deliver a large portfolio of structures work for the North-West and East of England regions of the Scheme Delivery Framework for National Highways.
You will be expected to take a leading role across the region for all aspects of project delivery, financial performance, client relationships, and people development, with a particular emphasis on our Scheme Delivery Framework with National Highways.
Responsibilities:
* Safety, health and well-being leadership - setting the culture for our teams;
* Setting the direction for delivery of structures schemes across the portfolio;
* Client-facing and escalation point for structures projects;
* Stakeholder engagement (e.g. technical approval authorities);
* Mobilisation of new teams, including skills development and integration;
* Programme and resourcing overview, including forward work-planning;
* Commercial performance across the regional structures portfolio;
* Delivery quality and consistency across all teams;
* Project governance and compliance, including technical assurance.
Skills/ Behaviours:
* Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE or MIStructE);
* Ability to develop strong relationships with clients and internally;
* Understanding of resources available across the wider WSP business – ability to establish a good network and influence;
* Good knowledge of National Highways, including drivers and technical priorities;
* Detailed understanding of technical requirements of typical asset renewal projects (to enable appropriate resourcing and skills development);
* Proven experience in leading the assessment, design, and maintenance of bridges;
* Strong commercial knowledge and ability to influence financial performance on projects;
* Able to plan strategically and set the medium-term (2-5 year) direction for delivery.
