Job summary
Our Young Persons Worker teams offer vital support, training, and education to young people in their locality. They work with other agencies and professionals to safeguard their young clients, working with their families too where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
As a Young Persons Worker, you'll be supporting a caseload of young people who are experiencing difficulties with substance misuse. You'll work with them to access their needs, develop care plans, deliver a variety of treatments and/or refer them to other specialist support when needed. You'll also be proactively engaging with young people to provide them with the support, training, education and guidance they need to better understand the implication of the situations they may face and the decision they may take.

Qualifications
Essential
10. Attained ONC/NVQ level 3 or be willing to achieve this within 12 months.
11. This role is subject to a satisfactory enhanced level DBS and barred lists check.
Desirable
12. A qualification in substance misuse, mental health, psychology, nursing or youth work
Experience
Essential
13. To be able to do this job successfully, you will have:
14. experience of working with young people in a 1:1 or group setting
15. experience of working with young people with substance misuse and/or mental health difficulties
16. experience of supporting young people with difficulties they may face such as homelessness or domestic abuse
17. experience of completing risk assessments or care plans for young people
18. excellent relationship building skills with a range of people from a wide variety of backgrounds
19. the ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a team, sharing your skills knowledge and experience
20. good organisational skills to be able to manage your time effectively, prioritising your work and being able to cope with the pressure of competing demands
21. excellent written and oral communication skills, including engaging delivery of presentations
22. the ability to record and maintain accurate case details and in a timely manner
23. effective IT skills, able to use different packages and digital media
Desirable
24. While they are not essential, the following would be an advantage to candidates;
25. experience of working within Children's Social Care
26. Knowledge of parenting skills and issues
