This post is for 8 PA. The Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join the medical team working with the North Wiltshire Intensive Service.
The post holder will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary Team providing advice and assessment of patients under the Intensive service. The Intensive team works closely with secondary mental health teams when managing referrals. Most referrals come through the Primary Care Liaison and Memory Service, Community Mental Health Teams and the Mental Health Liaison Team.
The medical team provides clinical advice and leadership in a number of settings and interactions throughout their working week rather than at designated times only in their weekly timetable. The post holder will be managing the team caseload alongside the consultant. There are weekly case reviews where an MDT approach reviews more complex presentations. This facilitates team discussion and creation of a team formulation.
Main duties of the job
1. To attend the daily NWIS Handover meeting and to attend the weekly NWIS Case Review Meeting.
2. To assess and treat service users in the community and/or in reviews at Green Lane Hospital.
3. To support the team with medical input as required.
4. Undertake urgent psychiatric assessments when necessary.
5. To liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
6. To be responsible for the day-to-day management of general adult patients, i.e., history taking, diagnosis, note keeping, report and letter writing, psychiatry and physical examination, pharmacological treatment and discharge planning.
7. To contribute to the development of acute care services in line with best practice and nationally accredited standards.
8. To receive ECT training (provided to all inpatient medical staff). The SAS doctor would not participate in the regular ECT rota but may be asked to administer ECT at exceptional times.
9. To provide clinical leadership and consultation for Intensive Team members, supporting them in providing home-based care and facilitating safe and timely transitions for patients between inpatient and community services.
10. Assess and treat patients referred to the Intensive Team advising on management plans through regular Team reviews, handovers, and advice to Team members.
