We are looking to recruit a maintenance assistant into our team at University Hospital Southampton Foundation NHS Trust.
The ideal candidate will gain experience working on the following systems.
* Air Handling Units & Ventilation Plant
* Electrical Systems such as lighting circuits/UPS
* Heating & Cooling systems
* Nurse-call Systems
* Softening plant
* Fire Systems
This is an entry level role and has no formal experience or qualification requirements; however, a general aptitude for physical and practical tasks is advantageous. Experience performing “DIY” activities such as home renovations or vehicle maintenance will give transferable skills, as would any other activity that involves use of basic hand tools.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working. Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. Due to the nature of this role and service, this role is on-site and the hours are as advertised.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
* Good communication skills
* Spatial Awareness & manual dexterity
* Ability to work physical tasks (Lifting, carrying etc)
* Working knowledge of basic hand-tools
* Keenness to develop their skill set and knowledge
* Routine maintenance tasks such as component replacement, recording performance data and plant room inspections
* Working with contractors to deliver maintenance works
* Working under direction of trade & supervisory staff to undertake engineering repairs
* Co-ordinating materials and resources to ensure they are available when & where required
* Basic plumbing & electrical tasks
The role will include comprehensive training to allow effective delivery of the role. The right candidate will also find opportunities to undertake formal engineering qualifications to allow progression to higher roles such as electrician or mechanical fitter.
Requirements and Skills
Essential:
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Computer literate (able to use PDA/Smartphone and MS Outlook for emails)
* Physically fit; able to climb a ladder and manoeuvre loads up to 25kg
Desirable:
* Previous experience in a similar role
* Previous experience performing similar tasks such as DIY, Vehicle Repair or Metal/woodwork
* Understanding of engineering principles and safe working practices

* Annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) starting at 35 days and rising to 41 days (after 10 years service).
* Basic salary is dependent on previous relevant experience and is in the range of £24,071 - 25,674 pa.
* Core working hours are Mon – Fri 07:30 – 15:30 however you will be expected to participate in an out-of-hours roster that requires weekday working 1400 – 2200 approximately 1-weekday-in-10 and weekend working 0730 – 1530 approximately 1 weekend in 10.
