Job Purpose: To effectively manage a team of engineering staff to achieve efficient maintenance and repair of assets whilst maintaining competency, safety, and routine housekeeping duties.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Team Management: Professionally and competently manage, support, and control a team of engineering staff with regards to annual leave, sickness, discipline and grievance, competency, productivity, safety, and welfare.
* Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the maintenance of vehicles is carried out in line with company policy, procedure, and current Rail Industry and Rail Group Standards.
* Record Keeping: Accurately ensure maintenance records are completed.
* Repairs and Modifications: Efficiently carry out modifications and major and minor repairs as required in accordance with appropriate approvals and procedures.
* Incident Response: Attend on-track incidents and provide technical backup as required by the needs of the business in a timely manner.
* Safety Compliance: Ensure complete understanding of and abide by all safety notices, rules, and regulations to protect and safeguard personal and company protection.
* Housekeeping: Supervise and maintain high standards of housekeeping in line with safe systems of working and company practice.
* Periodic Maintenance: Assist the Depot Manager in the planning and execution of periodic maintenance of DRS traction and rolling stock.
* Shunting Duties: Safely and competently carry out shunting duties in support of DRS Rail Movements as required by the needs of the business (where authorized).
* Mentorship: Professionally mentor depot Apprentices and new entrants to ensure they work safely and in accordance with their training program and DRS practices.
* Competency Assessments: Competently carry out assessments as required ensuring competency of staff is maintained.

General & Regulatory Responsibilities:
* Abide by the Official Secrets Act 1911 and 1989.

* Perform other duties from time to time which are reasonable in relation to the individual\\\'s skills, abilities, and grade.
Dimensions:
* Budget: Accountable for a TBC budget, in accordance with delegations and approval processes.
* Employee Base: Circa 700 based regionally.
* Team: Consisting of approximately 19.
Internal and External Relationships:
* Rail Division Senior Team
* NTS colleagues
* NDA and NDA Group
* Commercial Customers and suppliers
* UK Government organizations
* External bodies including Customers and Suppliers, Regulators, and other key stakeholders
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Needed:
* Qualification: HNC/HND in relevant field or time served in relevant engineering field. Maths and English Grade A-C or equivalent.
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on DRS Traction and Rolling Stock. Minimum of 3 years working within DRS. Managing and delegating workloads. Managing or supervising a team.
* Knowledge: DRS locomotive and/or rolling stock. DRS’ business. Rail industry preferred.
* Skills and Attributes: Effective communication, able to motivate staff, management/team leading, current driving license, flexibility, organization skills, time management, problem-solving, IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Rail Industry systems GENIUS & TOPS, Q Pulse).
* Core Training: Manual handling, hold or be willing to obtain PTS, holds or be willing to obtain RST, DP Certificate holder, hold or be willing to undertake A1 Assessor qualification.
* Systems Training: TOPS.
* On the Job: Methods of work, depot protection, VMI’s.
* Technical: Axle bearing maintenance, fleet competence.
* Health and Safety/Security/Environmental Training: Accident investigation, asbestos awareness, IOSH managing safety.
