Description Project Officer - Mentoring and Community Projects The full-time starting salary is normally £34,226.00 per annum, with progression available in post to £37,203.00 per annum. Grade: SO1 Full time, Fixed Term Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to work right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for Project Officer to join our dynamic team working with staff and students on campus. This role will join an established team and play a major part in supporting the delivery of the BCU’s youth mentoring and community initiatives, working alongside external partners to deliver meaningful engagement for children, young people, and local residents. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project delivery in an externally funded context looking to develop their career in an exciting environment. Working directly with the Project Manager, the Project Officer will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activity of projects that sit with BCU’s youth mentoring and community offer. This currently includes two externally funded contracts and a number of smaller workstreams working with external organisations such as Barnardos Children’s Charity, Our Place Support CIC, Liminal Education, and Flourish. This role will work collaboratively with external partners and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard by: Supporting the recruitment of Volunteer Mentors Acting as the BCU representative for students, graduates and alum that engage in project activity Supporting project management activities where BCU are the lead partner Arranging meetings, events and training days Liaising with project partners and stakeholders Supporting compliance and finance activity Leading the creation of case studies and good news stories Working with the Project Manager and Senior Programme Manager to identify areas for growth General project administrative duties To be successful in this role, we would require the following skills and experience: Experience of providing project support Knowledge of project management principles, tools, and techniques Good problem-solving and listening skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to collate and present information to stakeholders Good attention to detail Good interpersonal skills Ability to prioritise, plan and organise day to day activities ensuring that deadlines and objectives are achieved Whilst not essential, experience of working on initiatives involving outreach and community engagement, particularly with students and young people, would be desirable.
