Responsibilities
1. Maintain a suite of instrumentation for materials synthesis and characterization (e.g. XRD, SEM, etc.)
2. Develop and monitor support systems for instrumentation, including vacuum pumps, thermal management, and exhaust
3. Perform, or schedule with a vendor, periodic maintenance
4. Work with the data management team to establish a tracking system for instrument maintenance and early detection of instrument failure
5. Work with the automation team and instrument scientists to establish and document instrument calibration routines
6. Assist with execution of calibration routines and instrument operation in general, as needed
7. Analyze, report, and present findings of experiments to the FL96 research team
Qualifications
1. Hands-on experience working with scientific instrumentation, including x-ray, vacuum, and chemical handling equipment
2. Experience with maintenance and safe operation of vacuum instrumentation and lasers
3. Experience with repair of mechanical and electrical components of scientific instruments
4. Experience developing standard operation procedures for scientific instruments
5. Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
6. Strong self-starter and independent thinker, with strong attention to detail
7. Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
8. Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical setting
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with scanning probe microscopy and/or nanoindentation techniques
2. Experience with experiment automation
3. Experience with computer programming
