An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Practitioner to join our dynamic team in the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit at Ipswich Hospital.
Our nurse-led team delivers pre-operative assessment to patients who will be undergoing a range of elective procedures within the specialties of Urology, General Surgery, Colorectal, ENT, Vascular, Oral, Plastic Surgery, and Breast surgery.
Working closely with anaesthetic colleagues and surgeons, we are a forward-thinking, innovative team who relish a challenge and who are responsive to the needs of the service and the requirements of our patients.
Currently, the unit delivers appointments to patients between 0800 and 1700 Monday to Friday.
You will complete telephone and face-to-face assessments for appropriate patients as per pre-operative guidelines and ESNEFT policies.
You will use local and national policies to identify issues with patients' health that need to be escalated to a registered nurse or a consultant anaesthetist for review to ensure patients are prepared safely for theatre.
You will maintain accurate patient records and complete relevant data collection.
You will communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, providing information, education, and health promotion to enable patients to optimise their health prior to surgery.
You will communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate the patient's safe pathway to surgery.
You will undertake venepuncture, ECGs, and observations as per national and local guidelines and act appropriately on the data collected, sharing concerns promptly and appropriately to ensure patient safety.
You will proactively utilise and implement all infection control policies within the Trust, ensuring effective use of personal protective equipment, hand washing/decolonisation between activities, and adherence to isolation procedures within your daily practice.
