Cancer Institute CNS Administration Support (Non-Specific Symptom Pathway)
To provide an efficient and effective patient-focused administrative service, supporting the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team with the day to day admin tasks relating to patient care and supporting patients to navigate through the secondary care pathway. The current team consist of CNSs and the patient groups are varied and require different levels of support / input.

1. To liaise with and act as a point of contact for clinical and non-clinical staff via telephone and email
2. To act as a point of contact for patients, relatives and carers. The post holder should be polite and empathetic to the patient’s needs at all times and be able to communicate effectively when dealing with difficult situations/conversations
3. Dealing with telephone enquiries from hospital staff, general practitioners, patients and others and liaising with relevant departments. To take accurate messages and pass onto the appropriate person if unable to help with the query.
4. Returning calls promptly and keeping callers updated with information in an effective and efficient way
5. Escalate patient queries, capacity problems and general issues to the role’s line manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
Clinical Nurse Specialist Support
6. To be first point of contact for telephone enquiries for the CNS and NSSP team.
7. To take accurate messages and pass onto the appropriate person if unable to help with the query.
8. To be able to use the relevant computer systems to accurately input and retrieve patient information, check patient demographic information is current and accurate.
9. Typing of all CNS clinic and correspondence letters and filing
10. Input data to local NSSP spreadsheets.
11. Maintaining patient information and schedules.

12. To communicate effectively, promptly and accurately, applying discretion and tact where necessary, with written, telephone and face-to-face contact, with patients, visitors, other Trust staff and various external agencies.
13. To deal with enquiries associated with patient care sympathetically and promptly. To take action, where appropriate and communicate information promptly to the appropriate member of staff.
14. To show a sympathetic and caring approach towards patients, their families and carers when carrying out duties.
15. To maintain patient case notes and other associated documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with hospital policy.
