Reporting to the Global Leader for Business Development and Marketing and working with Senior Leaders in the Global Executive Office (GEO) and across the RSM network, The Head of Communications will be responsible for developing and leading an external and internal communications strategy that drives engagement with members and stakeholders and supports the organisation’s strategic objectives.
This role will be based in London.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and implement a comprehensive external and internal communications strategy that supports GEO and Network strategy.
* Lead and manage the communications team, providing clear vision, direction, support and professional development opportunities.
* Maintain regular communication with larger member firms on their strategic and ongoing corporate communications to work collaboratively, embed international within their thinking, and strategically align.
External Communications
* Oversee all aspects of external corporate communications ensuring messaging is aligned to GEO and Network strategy.
* Own and drive a corporate content programme with clear planning that aligns with strategy and chosen focus areas. Drive to continuously improve team outputs and processes to support execution.
* Take responsibility for advancing all GEO communications, exploring and testing new creative formats, software and channels ensuring the quality of our communications stay ahead of the competition.
* Lead on the development and advancement of flagship corporate communications such as the Annual Review.
* Seek out positive content for RSM, sharing corporate success stories relating to organisational growth, initiatives and campaigns.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with external third parties and suppliers to support the communications strategy.
* Support the production of high-quality marketing communications materials alongside marketing colleagues, helping to ensure strategic alignment and maximum impact, always striving to improve.
Internal (member firm) Communications
* Establish relationships with senior communications professionals at key member firms and build relationships with internal stakeholders to identify and develop key spokespeople for a variety of topics.
* Ensure effective internal communications channels are in place to keep both the GEO and member firms informed and engaged.
* Develop and drive internal communication strategies to support corporate messaging, and organisational change and development.
* Own and shape the agenda for World and Regional conferences as a vehicle to deliver and support key internal strategic messaging.
* Coach internal speakers on communications activities (media, video, presentations).
* Advise on internal communications strategies and software use and selection to facilitate internal knowledge management and collaboration.
Crisis Management
* Develop and maintain a crisis communications strategy and plan.
* Lead and implement the crisis communications strategy during times of crisis, ensuring clear and effective communication.
Measurement and Reporting
* Continuously measure and report on communications effectiveness to drive future decision making.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* A degree or post-graduate qualification in Communications, Public Relations or a related field preferred.
Experience and Skills
* Proven experience in a senior communications role, preferably within a membership organisation, professional services, or similar environment.
* Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing successful communications strategies in a highly complex organisation.
* Experience in media relations at a senior level.
* Experience in safeguarding and defending the reputation of a business.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong team leadership and team management skills.
* Ability to think strategically and creatively.
* Proficiency in digital communications, including how AI can be deployed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of communications.
* Well versed in using a variety of software platforms to support communications execution.
* Strong interest in data and analytics to measure communications effectiveness and drive future content development.
* Ability to work to tight timescales.
Additional Requirements
* Availability to work outside of normal working hours in the UK (due to the nature of the Global role and time-zone differences and time-critical communications).
* Attendance at events (either RSM internal or third-party run events) may be required and these may be at a range of venues around the world. In these instances, the post-holder will be expected to be able to travel and spend nights away from home (sometimes several, consecutively) while attending or supporting these events.
