DESCRIPTION
As part of the Workplace Health & Safety Due Diligence and Remediation team, the role for Geo-Environmental Field Scientist – Contaminated Land will be responsible for partnering with internal and external construction teams during site development and providing advice and support during construction of mitigation and remediation activities. In addition, you will be responsible for the ongoing operations, maintenance, and monitoring (OMM) of existing and future mitigation and remediation systems throughout Europe. You will be responsible for liaising with vendors and external consultants for OMM support, checking conformance with mitigation and/or remediation designs, and completion of self-performed OMM, where appropriate.
It is expected that the role will involve coordination between multiple Amazon teams, regulatory agencies and external stakeholders, and partners such as property owners, developers, and contractors. The role will report directly to a Senior Engineer in the UK and will liaise with construction teams and other internal stakeholders in the field.
To be successful in this role, you will possess strong communication skills, have a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience, and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. Candidates should possess knowledge of and, preferably, experience in the environmental site assessment process, ground remediation, ground gas and vapour mitigation and site-based experience working with contractors in a site development or remediation context, as well as the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Liaise with Amazon stakeholder, construction teams, developers, external consultants and regulatory agencies focusing on the successful delivery of mitigation plans.
•Provide field Oversee oversight of installation of ground gas and vapour mitigation systems installation including liaison with specialist contractors for installation, testing and commissioning.
•Monitor installation of, and review construction quality assurance reports for ground gas and vapour intrusion mitigation systems.
•Conduct routine field visits to construction and remediation sites to ensure adoption of remediation and mitigation plans and adherence to Amazon WHS standards.
•Perform and document OMM of remediation and mitigation system through site visits.
•Schedule maintenance with qualified contractors to execute work on your behalf.
•Manage contractors who provide construction or renovation oversight, remote system sampling, and maintenance support.
•Evaluate, coordinate, and oversee integration of telemetric mitigation system controls into building management systems (BMS).
•Evaluate and recommend mitigation system optimization to reduce costs, improve safety, and/or minimize operational disruption
•Review and track system telemetric data from equipped systems. Provide support for local teams to manage alarm conditions.
•Support training of on-site staff in the functionality of systems and their components.
•Draft standard operating procedures for operations, maintenance, monitoring and emergency response in cooperation with the Corporate DD team.
•Evaluate, coordinate, and/or oversee onsite training for associates related to system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
•Interface with Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) regarding system monitoring and response actions. Serve as regional point-of-contact in conjunction with team manager in response to troubleshooting and alarm conditions.
•Serve as point-of-contact for building owners and their contractors for system maintenance and monitoring as well as future renovations which may disrupt mitigation systems.
•Provide a single point of contact to regional WHS team and WHS DD corporate team to support them on understanding mitigation system obligations and inform future best practices.
•Support local on-site teams during building renovation activities through oversight coordination and plan review. Provide on-site support including reviewing contractor working methodology and safety plans for mitigation of WHS risks.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field of study.
- Experience with construction oversight.
- Ability to read construction plans.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage a high-volume workload.
