A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Technical Manager / Engineering Manager to join a Manchester based organisation who provide a wide range of services to the defence sector including; design, manufacture, MRO and test of safety critical electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical components.
As Technical Manager, you will have responsibility for the engineering function and will be technical authority for all engineering based projects.
Role Overview:
This role will provide leadership in all aspects of project management, ensuring that engineering projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the high standards that clients expect.
You will be responsible for managing engineering resources, planning capacity, mentoring the team, solving complex problems and being the interface between engineering and other key departments.
1. Lead all engineering projects from inception to successful completion
2. Act as Technical Authority ensuring each stage of project receives adequate challenge, review and signature
3. Oversee the day to day activities of the engineering team, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and the successful delivery of engineering and project objectives
4. Strategically plan short and long-term workload, balancing priorities to meet operational and project deadlines
5. Coach and mentor the engineering team building a culture of high performance, accountability
6. Quickly provide effective solutions to engineering challenges ensuring minimal disruption to operations
7. Maintain close liaison with Operations and Sales teams to align engineering activities with overall business goals
8. Act as the primary engineering contact for customers ensuring requirements are fully understood and delivered
Skills and Experience Required:
1. Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering
2. Experience of Project Management or Technical Management in a process driven, safety critical environment
3. Strong technical mindset, ideally with knowledge of the Defence/Aerospace industry
4. Results-oriented, capable of planning and delivering projects within set deadlines
5. Proven leadership skills, with a track record of optimising team performance and successfully managing engineering projects
6. Strong relationship management skills, able to engage, negotiate and influence key stakeholders and suppliers
7. Experience managing project budgets with a commercially astute approach
8. Proficiency in project management software, alongside strong experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
