Help us create a better future, quicker
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are working towards achieving our RIIO-T2 and RIIO-ED2 ambitions to provide a safe and reliable service which delivers Net Zero ambitions, builds a trusted relationship with our customers and stakeholders, and builds a digital and data driven workforce of the future.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a lead role in the Data Transformation of the Energy Industry, as part of SPEN’s newly created Network Data & Intelligence function. This is a new position in response to the ever-evolving way we use data – recognising that development, and external sharing, of our data and information will be a key enabler in the transition to net Zero.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a programme of work to develop our suite of data and information to ensure that our customers and stakeholders have access to content that meets their needs. This will include working with data on our engineering assets, our network, and our plans, working with stakeholders and the business to understand and analyse the information, develop insights, improve the quality, and to identify synergies across various datasets, which can then be developed into tools and visualisations which can support decision making for our business and our stakeholders.
You will also be supporting the development of our framework for data sharing, including engagement with external stakeholders such as Ofgem and DESNZ to ensure that our data is developed and shared in line with the principles of Data Security and Cyber security. You will be working closely with our Engineering and planning functions to ensure they understand the principles of Data Best Practice – an evolving area within the industry, and you will have the unique opportunity to develop this framework and support the implementation of the programme of work across our business.
What you’ll be doing
1. Lead in the development of our data sets for external publication.
2. Develop and realise an end-to-end data sharing strategy, ensuring that we learn from industry best practice, and maximise the unique offerings from our internal data provision.
3. Collaborate with various parties across the organisation, including Engineering, Planning, Business Transformation, Cyber and IT to ensure that our data sets and our data framework is implemented and realised across the organisation.
4. Work closely with our Open Data portal, identifying requirements to improve offerings which align with the needs of the datasets and ensuring we are delivering in line with Data Best Practice.
5. Engage with our stakeholders across the industry through attendance at industry events to seek opportunities to deliver best in class data offerings.
6. Continual development of our data triage process, our risk assessment process, and ensure that the principles of Data Security and Cyber Security continually evolved.
7. Prepare executive materials and industry submissions, ensuring that the work being completed by SPEN is fully reflected and recognised.
8. Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and establish effective working relationships with SPEN staff and management teams across the business.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Degree qualified in mathematics, engineering, statistics or similar.
2. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
3. Proven experience in data and statistical analysis.
4. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
6. Experience in preparing analysis, reports, and presentations for senior management.
7. Numerically articulate with strong attention to detail.
8. Ability to devise solutions to complex problems and challenges, involving consultation with others in the business, resolving, and presenting a common agreed perspective.
What You’ll Bring:
1. Proactive, adaptable, and passionate about delivering high-quality, actionable data.
2. Ability to quickly understand a range of complex data and the issues it may present.
3. Strong communication skills to articulate objectives and deliver projects with multiple milestones.
