Deputising for the Registered Manager, you ensure that statutory and contractual responsibilities are met and operate within national and local policy frameworks and that government legislation and programmes meet the needs of young people, with a view of rehabilitation into the community. Vinney Green is a secure children’s home for young people who have been remanded or sentenced to custody by the courts. We are committed to help young people to settle in a custodial setting, help them to learn about safety, use our incentive and reward scheme to achieve meaningful rewards, access bespoke education support, be involved in meaningful activities and are supported to build their vocational and life skills, promoting a sense of achievement. What you will be doing Leading a care staff team of education, health, care and facilities management professionals, you will deliver a sensitive and child-focused service for young people, which meets statutory and contractual obligations within national and local policy frameworks and government legislation. You will work in partnership with the Registered Manager and deputise for them, including strategic decision making and have responsibility for the operation and management of two parts of the Home. A key role will be to design and implement a range of programmes to meet the needs of young people, in consultation with health colleagues, preparing them to transition to secure adult provisions, help them develop skills to rehabilitate into the community and creating an environment in where young people and staff feel safe. Working in partnership with care, education and health management, you will ensure that both the young people within the home and the wider public are protected, have a high quality service offering value for money and identify opportunities for collaboration across projects and services to enhance our young person provision. Leading by example, you will ensure that staff implement the home’s policies and procedures to always maintain the safety and dignity of the young people, through regular supervision, training, team meetings and ensure that a high standard of service delivery and casework is maintained. What we need from you It is essential that you have a professional qualification in Social Work, either Dip SW, CQSW and maintain your registration with Social Work England and a management qualification equivalent to Level 5 You will have considerable experience in managing Ofsted registered residential children’s services for young people who have complex care needs and have relevant experience in a local authority childcare setting or working with young people in a secure setting. We require you to have strong proven leadership skills, have experience in introducing and managing change and planning service delivery incorporating long term objective within a children’s residential care setting. It is essential that you have knowledge of law, guidance and practice in relation to children and young people with specific knowledge of youth justice, children’s home regulations and standards, a detailed knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedure and the needs of children looked after. It is key that you have experience of managing risk in relation to children and young people and risk-taking behaviour including risk to self, risk to others and risk from others. You should have experience of managing budgets and resources within a social care setting and experience of using quality assurance systems to monitor and evaluate service provision, including the ability to set and monitor standards within a commissioning framework. To be successful in this role you must have well developed skills to motivate, and develop teams, negotiate and influence multi-disciplinary teams, chair safeguarding planning and review meetings and progressing protection plans.
