Join Our Team as a Maintenance Operative!
HMP Northumberland has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Operative. Your role will involve carrying out a wide range of maintenance and repairs to support HMP Northumberland. This position requires basic knowledge of building services, electrical/mechanical components, as well as safety codes and regulations. The role involves escorting and working with external contractors.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Perform general repairs and maintenance across building services.
2. Inspect and make improvements to the resident decency standards.
3. Repair and replace building fixtures and fittings.
4. Escort Contractors across the site.
5. Escort specialist contractors and work beside them as required.
6. Carry out work to relevant trade standards.
7. Ensure Health and Safety policies are always adhered to.
8. Undertake duties, as required, that contribute to the effective operation of the prison.
9. Participate in ‘out of hours call out procedures’ on an “On Call” rota system and take appropriate response action.
10. Work in accordance with Sodexo’s policies and procedures.

1. High level of interpersonal skills.
2. Have a positive approach to Health and Safety.
3. Proactive, systematic approach to tasks.
4. Ability to work to correct time schedules and deadlines.
5. Be professional and enthusiastic to work independently and as part of a wider team.
6. Be prepared and motivated to undergo training, such as a ‘locksmith’s course’ or Fire Door Maintenance Course to assist maintenance requirements across the site.
