Job Overview
The Cardio-respiratory Department is a team of Highly Specialist/Specialist Physiologists and Healthcare scientists that perform a variety of Cardiology and Respiratory Diagnostic tests. As one of our admin team, you provide an essential role in being the first point of contact our patients have within the department. You will be essential in maintaining a constant diary of appointments while prioritizing patients for clinical and national targets. You will also work with our physiologists to prioritize appropriate patients and clinics when required, alongside dealing with phone calls regarding appointments and assisting staff both within and outside of the trust.
Main Duties of the Job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Clerical Assistant to join our busy department. There will be one based at each site, though both will be expected to work cross-site as the need arises. You will also provide booking support for the Cardiorespiratory floor of the CDC, Hollinswood House, along with the rest of the booking team. There may be a need to have an onsite presence there on occasion; otherwise, this is done from the acute sites.
The successful applicant will need to have experience in dealing with the general public, ideally in a healthcare setting. They will have good IT skills and remain calm and professional under pressure in this often challenging role. A good telephone manner, confidence, and initiative are essential. Duties include making and altering appointments, answering the telephone, admitting and discharging our patients on both SEMA and CRIS systems, and helping with queries from the public and other hospital colleagues.
The Cardiorespiratory Department is an extremely busy, fast-paced department and requires our clerical staff to meet demanding targets; therefore, you will be a pivotal member of our team.
Working for Your Organisation

Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care. The Cardio-respiratory Department has a base at both hospital sites, and we perform a wide range of diagnostic Cardiac and Respiratory tests for both inpatients and outpatients. We will also be performing some diagnostics at the Community Diagnostic Centre at Hollinswood House when it opens later this year.
