Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
1. manage a clinical OT caseload, carrying out comprehensive assessments & delivering evidence based interventions using the Model of Human Occupation
2. conduct assessments and interventions which take place at the unit, in service users homes, or in the community
3. have an opportunity to develop both individual and group interventions to help the service user achieve their personal and recovery goals
4. learn the process of, and develop skills in Community Mental Health Team initial assessments and duty, with a view of undertaking them independently.

Job description
Job responsibilities
1. To manage a caseload of clients with complex OT needs, using evidence based/client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in clinic and community settings and on home visits.
2. To provide leadership for junior staff, through supervision and appraisal
3. To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services, holding responsibility for defined projects where appropriate
4. To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement, following attendance at an approved Fieldwork Educators course

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential
1. BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
2. HCPC registration (or applied for)
3. Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
4. Completion of preceptorship and/or evidence of having met the full KSF Gateway for Band 5 OT's
5. Evidence of relevant post grad training.
Desirable
1. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training
2. Practice Placement qualification/APPLE accreditation
3. AMPS/ESI/SI training
4. Broad base of clinical experience
5. Membership of RCOT, including specialist section
6. First line management training
7. Solution Focussed Brief Therapy training.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
1. Post registration experience in relevant clinical setting
2. Applied experience of providing both individual and group work interventions.
3. Specialist knowledge and experience of using the Model of Human Occupation assessment tools, or others appropriate to area
4. Experience of other specialist Occupational Therapy assessment tools, e.g., AMPS, Pool Activity Levels
5. Experience in providing advice, support and clinical supervision to junior staff and/or students
6. Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
7. Applied knowledge of Recovery principles and how these relate to OT.
Desirable
1. Previous experience of having worked at Band 6 level.
2. Experience in research or audit
3. Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or learning disability in a variety of health and social care settings.

1. Ability to apply broad knowledge of current best practice in OT and mental health.
