Job Summary:
The NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) to join our team for a temporary period. The successful candidate will provide expert care to patients with conditions related to the mouth, jaws, face, and neck. This role will include both elective and emergency cases, providing surgical expertise and multidisciplinary collaboration in a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Clinical Duties:
* Provide high-quality consultant-level care in oral and maxillofacial surgery to both inpatients and outpatients.
* Diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions including:
* Facial trauma
* Head and neck cancers
* Salivary gland diseases
* Craniofacial anomalies
* Cysts and tumors of the jaw
* Oral conditions requiring surgical intervention
* Orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery and reconstructive procedures
* Manage emergency cases, including complex facial trauma and life-threatening infections.
* Undertake elective surgeries, ensuring compliance with all preoperative and postoperative care protocols.
* Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
* Work closely with other specialties such as ENT, plastic surgery, oncology, radiology, and dental teams.
* Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for complex cancer and reconstructive cases.
* Collaborate with nursing staff, junior doctors, and surgical teams to ensure high standards of care and patient safety.
* Teaching and Supervision:
* Provide guidance and supervision to junior medical staff, specialty registrars, and clinical fellows.
* Deliver educational teaching to medical students, dental students, and trainees.
* Contribute to ongoing professional development and clinical audits within the department.
* Audit, Research, and Quality Improvement:
* Participate in clinical audits, ensuring that services meet the highest standards and are compliant with national and local guidelines.
* Engage in research activities related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and outcomes.
* Leadership and Administration:
* Lead and manage outpatient clinics and operating lists.
* Contribute to departmental meetings and service development projects.
* Take part in the on-call rota for emergency care, ensuring that the department provides timely and appropriate responses to urgent cases.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent).
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and/or General Dental Council (GDC).
* Completed specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (CCT or equivalent).
* Registered on the Specialist Register in OMFS (or within six months of CCT at the time of the interview).
* Fellowship or membership of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS/FRCS OMFS or equivalent).
* Valid ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certification.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience with complex cancer cases, particularly head and neck oncology.
* Published research in OMFS or participation in ongoing clinical research.
* Experience with robotic-assisted surgery or other advanced surgical technologies.

* Clinical Skills: Advanced competence in managing the full range of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality care.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
* Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams and make informed decisions in both elective and emergency settings.
* Teamwork: Strong commitment to working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
* Teaching and Mentoring: Proven ability to teach and mentor junior staff and trainees.
Other Requirements:
* Ability to work flexibly and participate in the on-call rota.
* Commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of advances in OMFS.
* Eligibility to work in the UK (if not currently holding a UK work visa, applicants must meet the necessary requirements).

Pay: £90.00-£110.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
