An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced senior nurse to join Outpatient CSU as a Band 7 to manage a staff team and maintain service delivery of Wharfedale Hospital outpatient department. The department covers both adults and pediatric service and provides clinics for multiple specialties including Max Fax, Ophthalmology, Urology, Surgery, Allergy and Dermatology. The requirements of the service will involve a flexible approach to working including the occasional evenings and weekends.
We are looking for a friendly, approachable and dynamic individual with excellent communication skills to help ensure the delivery of a high quality, evidence based and cost-effective service. You will have leadership experience and ensure patient care and experience is at the centre of the service provided.

Main duties of the job
The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the Wharfedale outpatient department on the LGI site. The job holder will be responsible for approximately 15 staff to deliver outpatient care for a number of specialities. This includes supporting complex investigations and procedures performed at Wharfedale for Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Max Fax and other specialities. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing and support worker team.
The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining the department's philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the department, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

Job responsibilities
1. Provide leadership to the clinical team.
2. Support and inspire staff to provide efficient, effective, safe, quality care to patients.

5. Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions, or have contingency plans available.
6. Work with Matron to lead the development of department nursing practice, reflecting the Clinical Service Unit and Trust business plans.
7. Work with the Matron and or Head of Nursing to suggest and develop new roles/ways of working.
8. Delegate and empower staff whilst maintaining overall, continuing responsibility and accountability.
9. Line manage the nursing team, including individual and team performance, attendance, management and workforce planning.
10. Ensure the effective deployment of staff is mapped against the flow of patients to provide safe and effective care.
11. Support and participate in local and trust wide recruitment events.
12. Manage the use of bank and agency.
13. Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events.
14. Deliver an effective, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope.
15. Raise and respond to concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT whistle blowing policy and supporting processes.
16. Deputise for Matron in their absence.
Clinical
1. Act in accordance to the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code: Professional Standards Practice and Behaviour.
2. Fulfils the requirements as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to maintain and revalidate registration.
3. Supervise department staff with regards clinical practice and patient experience to promote the delivery of excellent clinical standards.
4. Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care as an expert practitioner.
5. Ensure that documentation standards are maintained in accordance with NMC and LTHT guidelines, whether written or computerised.
6. Promote and maintain positive working relationships between all staff, internal and external to the Trust, involved in the care of patients.
7. Set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, including those standards defined in local and national guidance.
8. Maintain a safe working environment.
9. Ensure the safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
10. Promote compassionate evidence-based practice, wherever possible.
11. Work with Matron to ensure that clinical governance processes at department level encompass measures to ensure the quality of the fundamental and essential aspects of care.
12. Balance clinical risk and clinical decision making against context.
13. Work with the Infection Prevention and Control Team and Facilities to monitor the environment to maintain and raise standards.
14. Undertake duties on other wards or departments as and when required by the service.
15. Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to the LTHT safeguarding policies.

1. Has a responsibility to improve the quality and safety of our services. It is expected that in fulfilling a clinical leadership role you will be proactive in promoting and using the Leeds Improvement Method.
