We are looking for a mental health nurse with specialist Eating Disorder experience to cover a fixed term maternity leave vacancy within the Adult Community Eating Disorder (ACED) team in Oxfordshire. The team has been through significant transformation, including a skill mix review, significant recruitment, and has developed clear internal pathways for the different eating disorder diagnoses and clarity of interventions delivered. The team continues to work with colleagues from CAMHS, Adult Services, Older Adult, and Primary care to develop and embed the ED pathway.
The community team is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrist, Nursing staff, Dietitian, Social Worker, Assistant Psychologists, Community Support Workers, and team Administrators. The service is committed to evidence-based and evidence-generating practice and your role will include the opportunity to be part of service development. The post holder will be ambitious, have a positive attitude, and possess outstanding clinical skills. The role of clinical nurse specialist is to provide comprehensive care to individuals with eating disorders, as well as taking a leadership role within the multi-disciplinary team to embed nursing as a key element of the treatment pathway. The post holder will receive, and be required to offer, supervision to other team members and act as Practice Assessor/Supervisor to nursing students and trainees.
Clinical nurse specialists play an important role in educating patients, families, and other healthcare providers on the complex nature of eating disorders. They are trained to carry out specialist assessments and provide evidence-based treatments to help people overcome their disorder. They work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive treatment plans that address not only the physical symptoms but also the psychological and emotional aspects of the disorder.
We offer a range of evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and deliver these within the community. There are opportunities for further training in the evidence-based treatments, including regular CBT-E (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) supervision, and the service is developing the FREED initiative. The service operates 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
1. Utilising knowledge and skills for interpretation and analysis of Service User needs.
2. Hold Care co-ordination responsibility for an agreed caseload.
3. Provision of appropriate interventions to support physical stabilisation of the patient, individual and group work, and supervision as required.
4. Ability to use an integration of theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practice to formulate clinical practice.
5. Using knowledge and skills of psychological therapies, for example, CBTe, MANTRA, and Solution Focused approaches, and effectively monitoring progress of interventions throughout the course of treatment using appropriate routine outcome measures.
6. To provide Specialist Assessments for Adults with Eating Disorders (AED).
7. Develop a working network to support staff in consultation and joint working with other agencies, institutions, and professionals to provide effective interventions for AED.
8. To support the development of an effective interface between mental health services and across providers and all partnership agencies, both statutory and non-statutory.
9. Develop effective care pathways for Adults with Eating Disorders.
10. Provide training, consultation, and supervision to Healthcare Workers and other professionals in community and hospital settings.
11. Offer and access supervision and support to ensure good practice within the team.
12. Undertake Clinical practice that demonstrates knowledge and promotes Patient rights and Safeguarding legislation.
13. To have a clear agreement with the service manager about the amount of time/sessions that should be direct clinical work.
14. Pro-actively provide psycho-education and advice to patients and carers.
15. Assessing risk in collaboration with the patient and their carers where appropriate, other workers/professionals, alongside use of own professional judgment and team processes.
16. Taking responsibility for ensuring the communication of Recovery Care Plans, Outcome measures, risk management plans, and other important information to relevant people, professionals, and agencies as appropriate.
17. Participation in the organisation and operational management of the Adult Eating Disorder (AED) community Service as agreed with the Clinical Team Manager.
18. Keeping accurate and contemporary clinical notes, reports, and workload data.
19. Implementing and promoting local and national legislation, incorporating good practice guidelines into clinical work.
20. Managing and prioritising clinical time and case load effectively.
21. Ensure effective communication with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to assist standards of clinical services.
