The post holder is designated to manage Portland Ward, ensuring provision of safe, high quality and individualised care to patients and the line management and development of the ward staff.
The post holder will participate in the achievement of the Ward’s objectives, through innovative and progressive approaches to patient care, be responsible for the adherence to Nursing Care Audit and Care Accreditation processes, and for the development of clinical audit and research-based activities, as well as for the development of the ward as a learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Management: Line management and supervision of all grades of staff, allocation of workload, and reporting deficiencies to the Matron.
2. Planning: Staff duty rotas to meet workload requirements.
3. Patient Care: Supporting senior and less experienced staff in the provision of patient care, assessment of care needs, and development of individual care programmes.
4. Multidisciplinary Liaison: Liaison with all disciplines and departments involved in care delivery.
5. Communications: Development and maintenance of effective communication systems within the clinical area.
6. Clinical Governance: Assisting in setting, maintaining, and monitoring standards of care.
7. Education & Training: Participation in ongoing personal professional development and mentoring of staff.
8. Research & Audit: Commitment to the development of research skills and participation in research studies.
9. Personal Performance: Acquisition of new skills and knowledge, and participation in the Trust’s appraisal process.
