We have a great opportunity for an International Finance Controller in our Finance Department. This is a key role with responsibility for leading our EU finance team including delivering high quality financial reporting, maintaining a robust control environment and leading process and control improvements. The role holder will be a senior member of our International Finance Team and will play a key role in the development of the EU finance team, currently based in Germany and Spain.
Key Responsibilities will include:
* Ownership of the month-end process for the European Business including oversight and delivery of the monthly reporting pack for the CFO.
* Provision of accurate commentary against budget and prior year performance.
* Responsible for maintenance of effective control environment and integrity of the balance sheet.
* Take a lead role in driving process and control improvements and the automation of manual processes including optimization of Workday.
* Key role in the annual budget and re-forecast process, responsible for signing off the balance sheet and cash position.
* Building strong relationships across the business, including with FP&A, Underwriting, Client Management and Service teams to represent International Finance interests in Group-wide projects, including the implementation of new strategies and onboarding of new clients.
* Building strong relationships with external audit team to complete Group and local audits to tight deadlines.
* Leading on technical accounting issues that impact International Finance, including impact on Solvency.
* Ensuring the International financial reporting is compliant with all Group policies and relevant technical accounting pronouncements and standards.
* Development and coaching of the EU Finance teams.
* Be a key member of the GFC leadership team and support wider Finance initiatives.
Skills and experience required:
* Role requires the holder to be a qualified accountant (ACA) with experience of financial reporting.
* Strong accounting knowledge (IFRS) with a good understanding of the regulations governing financial reporting.
* Able to make sound day to day accounting decisions and solve accounting issues and problems.
* Experience of working with senior stakeholders is critical, together with managing a team.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information simply to non-finance stakeholders.
* Able to demonstrate good attention to detail, good judgment showing logical decision making, and a hands-on approach.
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Significant post-qualification experience.
* Extensive experience of working in a similar role.
* Working knowledge of corporation tax, VAT and IPT.
* Preference for the role holder to have insurance experience including IFRS 17.
* Spanish speaker preferable.
* Strong leadership skills and experience of managing and developing teams.
