Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Lead Fibre Optic Field Engineer will be responsible for delivering high-quality and safe telecoms fibre installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance projects for various clients, under the supervision of the Build Manager / Field Supervisor.
As the Senior Engineer on site, you will lead the Fibre Optic Field Engineers, ensuring that the fibre projects are completed on time, to the satisfaction of the client, and company quality standards. You will also provide technical support and guidance to the engineering team and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations and best practices.
Responsibilities
1. Lead the Fibre Optic Field Engineers on site.
2. Oversee the engineers to ensure that their work meets quality standards.
3. Provide ‘on site’ training and mentoring to the engineering team.
4. Install internal and external fibre systems for various types of properties, such as commercial or residential.
5. Test and verify the performance and functionality of fibre optic networks using OTDR (optical time-domain reflectometer) and ILM (insertion loss measurement) testing equipment.
6. Install internal or external cable containment systems to protect and secure fibre optic cables.
7. Report daily project progress, issues, and outcomes to relevant project stakeholders, such as Project Manager, Coordinator, or Field Supervisor, using detailed reports and photographs.
8. Document and produce “As builds” and test results in hard or soft copy formats.
9. Interpret test results and troubleshoot any faults or errors in fibre optic networks.
10. Produce redline mark ups to indicate changes or corrections in fibre optic systems.
11. Respond to emergency call outs as part of the ERS (emergency call out response) rota.
12. Label equipment, cable, or cable core according to customer requirements and best practices.
13. Follow all health and safety guidelines and regulations.
14. Maintain high standards of personal workmanship and quality control.
Requirements
1. Proven Fibre experience.
2. Experience in fibre installation, testing externally and internally.
3. Good written and verbal English language skills.
4. Competent in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to work autonomously and be solution-focused.
6. Good communication skills, as the role is customer-facing.
7. Physically able to complete the role.
8. NRSWA Unit 2.
9. Must hold a valid driving licence – no more than 6 points.
