The Role As the Driver Development Manager, you will lead the GC Competency Management System (CMS) including planning, assessing, coaching, briefing and guiding fellow safety-critical colleagues in their roles. What You’ll Do Support the Driver Manager by ensuring all aspects of the Driver CMS are being effectively maintained; this includes ensuring monitoring activities (FDAs, OTMR Downloads, Summary Assessments etc.) are planned, completed and documented as per the SMS and that competency files are maintained effectively. Ensure safe and competent performance of all GC Drivers including Trainees, PQA and Experienced, providing additional support and guidance where necessary. Act as a point of regular face-to-face contact for Drivers within the depot, offering welfare support where necessary and working with the Route Driver Manager to put in place supporting actions where necessary. Key role in the design and development of operational Safety Management System (SMS) standards, training and briefing material relating to the Train Driver role. Maintain currency of Driver competence (including route or traction knowledge), whilst developing additional skills and knowledge where a business need exists. Comply with all relevant rules, procedures and policies. Undergo competence/proficiency assessments as required by company procedures and the SMS. Ensure compliance with relevant legislative and audit requirements for competence records. Support in the creation of Training Needs Analyses for new and existing Drivers, whilst also supporting the Driver Manager in developing and delivering associated training activities. Support in the development and delivery of briefings, training and other related tasks as directed, in conjunction with the Operations Training & Simulator Manager. Lead on accident/incident investigations requiring specialist/technical knowledge relating to train driving, or otherwise as directed. Provide coaching and support of all Drivers on technical matters as a result of any incident/accident or findings of any planned monitoring activities. Undertake and support operational projects and support the development and design of operational SMS standards, specifically those relating to the Train Driver role. Support the development of risk assessments or methods of work, including route risk assessments. Undertake the role of Operations On Call Manager on a rostered basis. What You Bring Train Driver - Minimum of 4 years experience as a mainline Train Driver within the last 5 years.
