Certification and Authorisation Manager
Location: Derby
Appointment Basis: Permanent
Salary: £60K-£65K + Benefits (Dependent on Experience)

Could you be the full-time Certification and Authorisation Manager in Derby we’re looking for?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your testing expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You’ll report to Head of Authorisation UK, and work alongsideother members of the Rolling Stock team. The role Certification & Authorisation Manager will be to define the Certification & Authorisation strategy of the vehicle(s), including budget and planning (in consistency with the project planning) through the development of the Certification & Authorisation management plan during tender and project execution phase until the end of the warranty phase.
We’ll look to you to:
1. Be a key player in the project team – Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless certification and authorisation processes.
2. Lead the certification journey – Manage the entire process, from defining requirements to securing regulatory approvals for our trains to operate.
3. Set and track success metrics – Establish KPIs and monitor progress to keep projects on track.
4. Secure test authorisations – Obtain necessary permissions to conduct trials on open tracks and public networks.
5. Navigate complex regulations – Oversee compliance with industry standards such as TSIs and National Rules.
6. Lead and support a team – Manage certification engineers and external partners to drive project success.
7. Ensure seamless collaboration – Work closely with Train Performance, Validation, and Subsystems teams to align regulatory requirements.
8. Engage with independent assessors – Take an active role in selecting and working with certification bodies.
9. Be the go-to expert – Share your knowledge across Alstom and contribute to shaping certification strategies across different sites.

11. Bachelors / Masters Degree (Engineering, Physical Sciences, others) or equivalent
12. Experience in engineering projects
13. Experience in leadership position
14. High degree of accuracy, clear communication style
15. Good experience with MS Office, Analysis/KPI preparation
16. General knowledge of rail vehicles
17. General knowledge of EU authorisation process
18. General knowledge of functional safety and validation
19. General knowledge of standards and regulations
20. Certification processes (railways, automotive, aerospace)
21. Project or Quality management
