Carry out all repairs and planned maintenance requests as assigned by Supervisor. Complete all work to a high standard to the satisfaction of the client and Supervisor, adhering to appropriate safety requirements. Comply with Safe Systems of Work operated by the Estates Maintenance Department and all relevant Statutory Regulations such as Health & Safety, COSHH, HTMs, and other guidance documents.
Complete appropriate docket reports and task reports accurately, in conjunction with the Department's Quality Management System. Communicate effectively with clients and visitors to ensure jobs are completed to their satisfaction. Project a good image of the Department through good conduct and demeanor.
Organise and instruct staff of lower grades when under your control. Use relevant tools, specialist tools, calibrated equipment, PPE, and risk assessments on each task to ensure minimal health and safety risk to self, staff, and the public.
Diagnose and repair faults in Electrical Plant and Equipment, and have an understanding of Mechanical Engineering Services and Plumbing installations to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on to others. Maintain awareness and capability of the workings of Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Systems in NHS buildings. Instruct others on these features and other aspects of the work.
Design, manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new works and certify as required. Perform a basic range of work of other crafts with appropriate training. Understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts and other groups. Carry out all duties of lower-grade craftsmen within the Trust as requested.
Normal duties will include tasks such as repairing pumps, boilers, catering equipment, bedpan machines, and general electrical work, along with a wide variety of planned preventative maintenance. Requisition materials and obtain costs in compliance with the Department's procurement procedures and Trust Standing Financial Instructions.
Utilise knowledge, training, and experience to enable basic risk assessments to be carried out prior to any work being undertaken. Be able to work using own initiative if the situation arises. Work frequently in abnormal conditions and be prepared to carry out arduous tasks. Carry a hand-held device as required to enable contact via Supervisor for urgent/emergency work repairs and work allocation. Must be prepared to work overtime and participate in 'On-Call' Service if required.
