The Bishop Fraser Trust
Lead Practitioner in Science
L6-L10 (£56,316 - £62,202)
1.0 FTE
Permanent Contract
Required Easter 2025 (negotiable around exam classes)
The Bishop Fraser Trust is a close-knit family of four secondary and two primary schools located across Bolton and Bury in Greater Manchester. Our schools are conveniently located near one another, allowing us to work collaboratively while celebrating our shared values and unique identities.
We are passionate about our mission to provide “Life In All Its Fullness” for every member of our community. If you are someone who thrives on making a difference, values professional development, and loves their work, we’d be delighted to hear from you!
We are seeking an inspirational Lead Practitioner in Science to join our team.
The support you offer our teachers and trainee teachers will be vital in ensuring that all our schools achieve the same successes. Joining a school improvement team led by a Director of Teaching and Learning, you will use your passion, subject knowledge, and expertise in science to drive forward the quality of the curriculum implementation. You will model great practice in our schools you are placed in.
We are looking for someone who still really loves teaching and is not looking to step out of the classroom. As well as team teaching with others to aid their development, you will have at least a 50% timetable of your own. Therefore, this will suit someone who wants to take on a leadership opportunity, without stepping away from the classroom. It will however very much broaden your own experience as we have pupils from 3-18 across our Trust.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:
* Be a teacher with a proven track record of securing sustained excellent outcomes.
* Have up-to-date knowledge of subject curricula and assessment requirements.
* Be proficient in teaching Science to Grade 9 at GCSE.
* Have the ability to develop teachers and their subject knowledge in physics, chemistry and biology.
* Have a highly effective style that is both consultative and influential.
* Have been a mentor for ITT or ECT.
* Be able to demonstrate resilience, motivation, and commitment to driving up standards of achievement.
* Understand that behaviour management starts with the quality of teaching in the classroom.
* Be able to work across a group of schools and show significant impact in developing capacity and improving outcomes for young people.
YOUR MAIN DUTIES:
* To support the development of science teaching across the trust.
* Assisting in the development of trainee teachers.
* Assisting in the mentoring and subject specific development for ECTs.
* Assisting in subject development for non-specialists.
* Team-teaching classes with developing teachers.
* Modelling excellent practice through your own teaching classes – having an open door for all to come and watch your curriculum implementation.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a passionate educator to make a significant impact while enjoying a supportive and collaborative environment.
If this sounds like your next challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
IN RETURN WE OFFER:
* A supportive and encouraging staff team.
* A paid premium to a Healthcare Cash Plan to claim back contributions towards dental, optical and other medical costs.
* 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
* Fantastic facilities.
* A lunch allowance for those colleagues volunteering to assist in lunchtime duties or activities.
