Non-specialist Biomedical Scientist - Histopathology

The Histopathology department is looking for a HCPC registered non-specialist Biomedical Scientist. The role will involve taking direct responsibility for all the results produced and work performed including quality control and assurance.
Main Duties of the Job
You will be expected to actively participate in all clinical laboratory tasks to support the specialised diagnostic service for patients in the Histopathology department performing routine diagnostic testing procedures on histology and non-gynae cytology samples. Duties may also include:
* Accurate descriptive note taking whilst assisting the pathologist at specimen dissection.
* Production of digital images of specimens.
* Processing and embedding tissue blocks.
* Production of high-quality sections.
* Specialised staining techniques.
* Assessment of all stained slides for quality and accuracy.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* IBMS accredited BSc degree or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience of working in a clinical histopathology NHS Laboratory for a minimum of 3 months.
* Experience of non-gynae cytology procedures.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety issues in pathology.
* Knowledge of UKAS accreditation for clinical laboratories.
* Knowledge and understanding of IT in a pathology environment.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum (pro rata).
