Of all the global broking houses operating in Scotland, this giant of the industry has perhaps the most compelling proposition. Unlike some firms whose London-centric ‘one size fits all’ approach can stifle opportunities, this dynamic broker’s culture of regional empowerment means that it can quickly adapt to nuances in the market that are unique to the ‘North of the Border’.
Ever forward-thinking, in recent years, this broker has developed a new management team in Scotland, from hiring some of the brightest and talented Account Executives in the country, through to appointing a new Regional Managing Director who has some truly impressive ideas for future innovations. This is clearly reaping rewards, from positive anecdotal feedback in the market through to superb scores received from employee and client-engagement surveys.
As part of this period of succession planning, this broker is seeking to appoint an additional Account Handler to its Corporate Unit. This Division deals with some of Scotland’s largest and most complex insurance programs, including those belonging to many of the region’s most prestigious, publicly-listed, and privately-owned companies. It also deals with reverse-flow accounts, pertaining to the UK elements of cover some of the world’s largest brands whose head offices are based overseas.
Supporting Account Executives and Directors, you will play a key part in the management of a varied portfolio of clients (although this can be tweaked to reflect your skills, experiences, and specific areas of interest). You will develop a detailed understanding of your clients’ businesses and exposure to risks, and where gaps in cover exist, you will develop innovative ways to mitigate these. You will also be involved in answering general inquiries, preparing renewals, and dealing with mid-term amendments. As you would expect, you will also produce a range of reports and documentation to support your findings and activities.
Whilst it is essential that you have a background in commercial insurance, you do not necessarily need to be a ‘dyed-in-the-wool’ Corporate Practitioner who deals exclusively with £50K+ income risks. We welcome candidates at all levels, from time-served Corporate Insurance Brokers with global experience, right through to candidates who have only dealt with middle-market business or only limited classes of business (just commercial motor or PI, for example) who can demonstrate an ability to deal with larger and more varied programs. You must also have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and be confident in your ability to build professional rapport with C-Suite clients from all walks of life. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are not afraid to challenge the status quo, have ideas on how to help the business develop over the coming years, or add value to ongoing projects.
This broker is a big advocate of modern-working practices, and you will be welcome to work from home 3 days per week. For days when you are in the office, this role can be based from either Glasgow or Edinburgh (or a combination of both if preferred).
In return, you will receive a generous, and entirely negotiable, basic salary and a market-leading ‘flexible’ benefits package that can be tweaked to your personal circumstances. You will also receive support towards professional qualifications and a vast array of opportunities for technical progression and development.
