We are looking for a creative and experienced marketing professional to lead the marketing efforts for our two venues. These venues host a wide range of events, including live music, comedy, talks, club nights, and private/corporate events. This role will focus on both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) marketing strategies, helping us boost ticket sales, increase bookings for private events, and raise awareness of what our venues offer.
This position is ideal for a Senior Marketing Manager ready to take the next step and step into a leadership role, or an experienced Head of Marketing seeking a new challenge. It offers the opportunity to make a significant impact at our iconic, grassroots music venues.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Leadership:
1. Collaborate with the Managing Director, Music Programmers, and Head of Commercial Sales to develop comprehensive marketing strategies that cater to both B2B (private/corporate events) and B2C (public events like live music, comedy, talks, etc.).
2. Oversee the execution of marketing and communications strategies, working within the agreed budget and regularly reviewing performance with the Finance Director and Managing Director.
3. Provide leadership in audience development for both venues, refreshing audience segmentation and engagement strategies to maximise reach for both private hires and public events.
4. Guide the marketing team to achieve business objectives, including increasing venue bookings, ticket sales, and attendance across both types of events.
5. Regularly review market trends, competition, and audience behaviours to refine marketing strategies.
6. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and Ticketing Manager to support their roles in implementing strategies and reaching targets.
Advertising & Campaign Management:
1. Develop and execute targeted, multi-channel advertising campaigns to promote the venues as event spaces and drive ticket sales for public events (music gigs, comedy, talks, etc.).
2. Develop B2B campaigns that highlight the venues as prime locations for private and corporate events, targeting relevant industries, businesses, and event planners.
3. Ensure key campaign objectives, including increasing revenue from corporate events and boosting attendance for public events, are consistently met.
4. Design and execute brand campaigns, especially for key moments like the launch of new event spaces, seasonal programming, and special events.
5. Optimise campaign performance by analysing outcomes and refining strategies as needed to achieve maximum impact.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
1. Conduct regular analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs), including social media engagement, website traffic, ticket sales, and booking data.
2. Provide fortnightly updates to the senior team on emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges based on analysis of audience and sales data.
3. Deliver quarterly in-depth reports on marketing performance, identifying areas for improvement, growth opportunities, and insights that inform both short- and long-term goals.
4. Adjust marketing efforts based on findings to enhance campaign performance and align with business objectives.
Team Leadership & Development:
1. Lead and mentor the marketing team, encouraging creative thinking, strategic planning, and independent decision-making.
2. Foster a culture of accountability, ensuring the team consistently meets individual and collective goals in line with business priorities.
3. Provide training and development opportunities for team members to help them grow in their roles and take on greater responsibilities.
4. Chair weekly marketing meetings to track progress against goals and ensure alignment with wider business strategies.
5. Continuously improve workflows, systems, and software to enhance team efficiency and collaboration.
6. Manage external agencies (e.g., PR, advertising, digital, graphic design) to deliver high-quality marketing materials and campaigns.
7. Conduct monthly 1-1 meetings with the Marketing Manager and Ticketing Manager to review their individual progress, provide guidance, and ensure alignment with overall business goals. Offer support in overcoming challenges, refining strategies, and driving performance.
Cross-Department Collaboration:
1. Serve as the primary point of contact for marketing support across all departments, ensuring seamless communication and integration of marketing efforts with programming, commercial sales, and other teams.
2. Work closely with the Music Programmers and Head of Commercial Sales to develop targeted marketing strategies for each type of event (private hires vs. public events).
3. Ensure that marketing communications align with the venue’s brand voice, mission, and customer experience.
This is a guide to the role of Head of Marketing. Responsibilities are likely to evolve with the post-holder and the needs of the organisation.
