As part of the Commercial - Underwriting and Claims team based in Edinburgh, we have an opportunity for an Underwriting Rules Developer to join us on a permanent basis. This role is hybrid with 2 days that can be based in any of our offices in Edinburgh, Aldersley Park or London.
This is a varied role that involves developing underwriting rules to reflect our underwriting philosophy across a variety of platforms, as well as supporting propositional development to develop the underwriting elements needed to bring new products or features to market.
The team is self-sufficient in the end-to-end underwriting rules process from design and development through to testing and deployment, ensuring that we are developing solutions that are customer-focused whilst balancing competitive underwriting with robust risk assessment.
The purpose of this role is to identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve electronic underwriting. In addition, support the development of the required underwriting to support new products/propositions to the market.
About the role
* Design of our electronic underwriting and business rules reflects our agreed underwriting philosophy.
* Evidence-based research of potential changes to the underwriting philosophies.
* Maintain the rules across a variety of platforms.
* Ensure you can demonstrate that the benefits identified from any approved and implemented changes have been realised.
* Maintenance and enhancement of Royal London’s underwriting rules to reflect changes in underwriting guidelines and reinsurance policy.
* Responsible for the full life cycle of rules development from input, quality assurance, test, and release to production.
* Develop underwriting rules to support new propositions as required.
About you
* Proven rules development experience on an underwriting engine. Ideally UnderwriteMe but would also consider applicants with experience developing on SSG, AURA or MAGNUM.
* Experienced Life and Disability underwriter.
* Experience in cleansing, summarising and analysing data using Excel or other packages.
* Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills with an ability to look for a variety of high-quality solutions and then recommend a best fit.
* Experience working in a project environment.
* Proficient working knowledge of data gathering or data analysis tools and techniques, such as Yellowfin, Power BI, Tableau or similar.
* A relevant professional Industry Qualification (ACII, DLDU).
